Harold Reynolds out at Baseball Tonight

Posted by Joe Siegler on July 26, 2006 at 10:56 am

This has apparently just been announced, and I don’t see any other stories that give any details as to why. I’m sure that will come out soon enough.
However, I will have to say, I’ll miss his sparring with John Kruk – those were some of the most entertaining moments of the show for me. :)
UPDATE 7/26: After reading around a bit this morning, it would appear that something behind the scenes went on. One article I read states that ESPN policy says the only three things you can be fired for on the spot are 1)Fighting with co-workers; 2) Transmitting Internet pornography; 3)Sexual harassment. Some other ESPN baseball folks who have had “issues” recently are Michael Irvin & Rick Sutcliffe. These guys had a drug paraphenelia (sp?) and on air alcohol issue, and weren’t fired, just suspended, so Reynolds’ issue was probably one of the three above, or something else more severe.
I did peek at Baseball Tonight last night, and it was just John Kruk & Karl Ravech with Tim Kurkjian (sp?) on the phone. No mention of Reynolds, although I would have been surprised if there was, tell you the truth.
However, according to this link from a site that deals with “ESPN Dirt”, it would appear it’s the sexual harrassment thing. However, it’s all rumour as if you read this link, someone denies the sexual angle, and then someone says “yes”, so we won’t REALLY know unless ESPN or Reynolds themselves say. And even then one has to wonder if they’d tell the full story.
UPDATE #2: Reynolds said something publically. According to this article, he claims he merely gave a woman a hug and it was misinterpreted. So that seems to cobborate the sex angle of the story. Of course he’s gonna spin it to suit himself – I doubt if it was “merely a hug” he would have been fired for it.

I’m back

Posted by Joe Siegler on July 17, 2006 at 10:50 am

I’m back from my vacation. I had a great time visiting family, and had a really great time at Fan Fest in Pittsburgh – will post some pictures shortly.
However, being out of the office for two weeks really puts me behind the 8 ball, so I’m not sure when I’m going to commence updates again. It will depend on how works goes the next day or so. I might have to skip the Toronto series too – will have a better handle on that tomorrow.

Mike Young wins All Star Game for AL

Posted by Joe Siegler on July 12, 2006 at 12:28 am http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/events/all_star/y2006/index.jsp>MLB.com Recap

If you’re reading this site, then you saw what happened. Mike Young was the big hero like Alfonso Soriano was in Houston, and Hank Blalock in Chicago. I’ll write more later, I just got done watching all the post game stuff on Fox and then on ESPN, and I’m pretty tired (it’s 1:30 AM here in Pittsburgh right now).
I will post a few pictures, though. :)

On vacation

Posted by Joe Siegler on July 2, 2006 at 8:44 am

Well, I’m about to head to the airport – I’m going on vacation for a couple of weeks. Going to visit family back home, and I will be in Pittsburgh for the All Star game. Not going to the game itself, but I will be attending fan fest, so I can hopefully get some good pics of that to post online.
Will try and update while I’m away, but that might be spotty at best. :)

Don’t think baseball does anything good?

Posted by Joe Siegler on June 28, 2006 at 12:26 pm

Go read this. Wish we’d see more stories like this. We get Bonds and Grimsley type stories plastered in our faces.
But not this kind of stuff. SIgh.

Fixing the draft

Posted by Joe Siegler on June 24, 2006 at 9:51 pm

It’s catch up with bookmarked articles night, and I wanted to bring up another one. This article is one by SI writer Tom Verducci, and is his take on how to fix the baseball draft. I have to say I agree with his points. Especially the first one. Here’s his bullet points:
1) Television
2) Make it a World Draft
3) Make picks tradeable
4) End the draft at 20 rounds
It’s a good read, go check it out.

Kenny Rogers Article

Posted by Joe Siegler on June 24, 2006 at 9:45 pm

I know Kenny Rogers was ridden out of town on a Channel 4 camera truss more or less, but I do miss the guy. So it was nice to see an article talking about Kenny in Detroit. I had this bookmarked, but never found the time to read it now. So head over to ESPN for this article by Jayson Stark on Kenny’s year in Detroit.
For the record, this season (as I write this), Kenny’s record is 10-3 with a 3.17 ERA in 15 games. He’s tossed 99.1 innings, given up 87 hits, on 22 walks and 57 stikeouts. And we’re not to the All Star break yet. So he’s having a great year. Good for him. That 2yr/$16 mil contract he got from Detroit doesn’t seem so dumb now. There is a cool quote from the Stark article which I didn’t realize.

The ace of the Detroit Tigers has virtually an identical career record (198-134) to Curt Schilling (201-133). But who out there has noticed that, either?

Taking a Break

Posted by Joe Siegler on June 20, 2006 at 11:24 am

AS you’ve noticed I haven’t updated much the last few games. The reason for this is some personal health issues with an immediate family member that’s taken a lot of my thought processes lately.
Additionally, my company is getting ready to release a product, which means a boatload of extra work for me this week. I will try and do small updates if I can find the time, but don’t be too surprised if you don’t hear from me for a week.
Thanks for visiting. :)

About Site

This is a Texas Rangers fan site run by Joe Siegler. From 1999 through 2013 I used to do daily game updates, but got burnt out on that and stopped.

The site lives on as my favorite section to update I’m still very interested in. That is the Uniform Number history pages, which I’m quite proud of. Plus Ill write the odd article here and there.

I mostly spend my time in this Facebook group talking about the Rangers these days.

If you have any questions, please feel free to drop me a line.
