G48: Rangers O bails out Yu again; win 12-6

Posted by Joe Siegler on May 28, 2012 at 12:16 am http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2012_05_27_tormlb_texmlb_1&mode=wrap>MLB.com Recap

The Rangers had another big win today, putting up 12 on the Blue Jays and supporting Yu Darvish quite nicely again.   All told in the weekend series against Toronto, the Rangers scored 34 runs on 50 hits in the three game series.   I’m reminded of Darth Vader saying “Impressive.  MOST impressive” at this time.  :)

Anyway, after this game was over, Yu Darvish leads the AL in wins with 7.   At that rate, he’ll win 21 by the end of the season.  Not bad for a first time major league pitcher (I refuse to call these Japanese imports rookies, they’re not).   But it wasn’t a clean cut win.

G47: Rangers win longest game of year, 8-7

Posted by Joe Siegler on May 27, 2012 at 11:46 pm http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2012_05_26_tormlb_texmlb_1&mode=wrap>MLB.com Recap

A big back and forth kind of game.   The lead was either tied or changed hands six times by my count.  Had a ton of frustration late, usually the level of frustration I get when we go to extra innings and don’t get the job done – because it usually means we lose late.  But this one ended up with a very fun ending.  Before that..

It was by far the longest game of the season, both in innings (13), and in time (4:38).  The game started at 2PM, and my wife works till 5 on Saturdays, so I wasn’t going to get a clean listen as I was watching the kids – which was OK.  Started at 2, listened for awhile, and had to stop when I took care of the kids more intently in the middle.  Then I passed out for about half an hour on the sofa (bad daddy), and ended up taking my son outside to play in the back yard.  Put the game on via the MLB At Bat app on my iPhone (not like the old days when I’d take a real radio out there).  Game was still going when my wife got home from work.  We even got into dinner, and it was still going.  :) [Read more…]

G46: Rangers unload and crush Jays, 14-3

Posted by Joe Siegler on May 27, 2012 at 10:50 pm http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2012_05_25_tormlb_texmlb_1&mode=wrap>MLB.com Recap

Any game that starts off with a six spot in the bottom of the first inning is pretty much set.  Oh sure, no lead is insurmountable, but when you put up a six spot in the bottom of the first, you pretty much have this one done.  This game makes me want to break out this image..

G45: Rangers drop finale to M’s, 5-3

Posted by Joe Siegler on May 27, 2012 at 9:58 pm http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2012_05_23_texmlb_seamlb_1&mode=wrap>MLB.com Recap

Bah.  The Rangers lost to Kevin Millwood.  Not that I hated Millwood.  I liked him doing his time here.  If you go back and look at the commentaries I wrote when he was a Ranger, I was generally supportive.   Still, one never likes losing to their own former pitcher.  Kevin went six innings, didn’t allow any runs, only three hits and a walk.  Safeco field fits him well.  He’s a flyball pitcher, and Safeco eats fly balls.  He’s only 3-4 after this game, but has an OK era.  I suspect he’ll probably get to about 10 or 12 wins there.  Not anything like his year in Cleveland, but still. G44: Harrison strong, Rangers beat M’s 3-1

Posted by Joe Siegler on May 27, 2012 at 9:15 pm http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2012_05_22_texmlb_seamlb_1&mode=wrap>MLB.com Recap

This game was Matt Harrison vs. Hector Noesi.  Noesi is a guy we usually rock pretty well, and while he did lose this game, he pitched pretty well himself, and probably could have used some help from his own offense.  But Matt Harrison took care of that.  Hector Noesi actually stayed in the game longer than Matt Harrison did.  He went eight innings.  Matt went seven.  Look at these lines: [Read more…]

G43: Darvish loses to Mariners, 6-1

Posted by Joe Siegler on May 27, 2012 at 6:17 pm http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2012_05_21_texmlb_seamlb_1&mode=wrap>MLB.com Recap

This was supposed to be an “elite” pitching matchup with Felix Hernandez going against Yu Darvish.  Granted, one wouldn’t expect a pitcher with just about 10 major league starts to be “elite”, but you don’t drive a truckload of money that large up to Darvish’s house and not expect him to be called “elite” quickly enough.  Darvish was out of the game early, only lasted four, while Hernandez stuck around twice as long as that. G42: Colby Lewis bounces back, gets 6-1 win

Posted by Joe Siegler on May 21, 2012 at 9:51 pm http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2012_05_20_texmlb_houmlb_1&mode=wrap>MLB.com Recap

This game can pretty much be summed up with two things.

1) Colby Lewis pitched like the guy who’s pitched in the playoffs the last few years.

2) Big crooked number early on.

Colby Lewis had more runs batted in than runs allowed in the game!

G41: Astros homer their way to win, 6-5

Posted by Joe Siegler on May 21, 2012 at 9:11 pm http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2012_05_19_texmlb_houmlb_1&mode=wrap>MLB.com Recap

I felt bad for Derek Holland.  I thought this game was going to be easy for him.  Again – Houston Astros.   We got up 4-0 in the third inning.  Was a nice outburst of offense, actually. [Read more…]

G40: Texas beats other Texas team, 4-1

Posted by Joe Siegler on May 21, 2012 at 8:38 pm http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2012_05_18_texmlb_houmlb_1&mode=wrap>MLB.com Recap

The final series against the Astros in Houston as an interleague game got underway on Friday night.  Right now, the Astros are a bad team.  Probably will be for another year or so.  It’s not like I expected the Rangers to win 17 or 18 to 3 each night, but I figured we’d handle ’em pretty easily.  We did get the win, but it was a slightly odd pitching performance.  Robbie Ross got the win, his fifth, but he didn’t start.   [Read more…]

G39: A’s bounce back, win in 10, 5-4

Posted by Joe Siegler on May 18, 2012 at 2:24 pm http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2012_05_17_oakmlb_texmlb_1&mode=wrap>MLB.com Recap

Despite two home runs by Mitch Moreland to power our offense, the bullpen blew it, and we lost the game in the 10th.

Shit.

About Site

This is a Texas Rangers fan site run by Joe Siegler. From 1999 through 2013 I used to do daily game updates, but got burnt out on that and stopped.

The site lives on as my favorite section to update I’m still very interested in. That is the Uniform Number history pages, which I’m quite proud of. Plus Ill write the odd article here and there.

I mostly spend my time in this Facebook group talking about the Rangers these days.

If you have any questions, please feel free to drop me a line.
