Derek Holland pitched OK to start off this game. Not great. Not even a “quality start”, but I look at this game, and didn’t think he was so bad, despite the numbers being “meh”. It’s an odd contradiction, as I’ve blasted some starters in the past for numbers like this. Derek went 5.1 innings, threw 92 pitches, allowed 7 hits, 3 runs, walked two. But.. All three runs he gave up were on the longball. Chicks still dig the longball, but I don’t for the opponent. [Read more…]
Derek Holland to DL

NOTE: Well, crap. Apparently Holland isn’t seriously hurt, it’s more a virus that is making him weak, so it was decided to rest him up. Shouldn’t be down long. Would probably explain his crappy outings the last few times out. Scheppers gets his first major league callup.
G55: Rangers ugly again, lose to A’s, 12-1
A’s starter Jarrod Parker almost no hit the Rangers, going quite a long time before giving up a hit in the top of the 8th. Thing is, I didn’t see or hear it, because of the abomination of a pitching performance turned in by Scott Feldman. I liked Feldman a lot a few years ago. He should not be pitching anymore. Especially not starting.
I actually turned the game off after the second, didn’t want to hear any more. After the game, I did this. Never thought I’d do this to my own player, but man, he has been atrocious. Thing is, what do we do until Oswalt is ready? Do we throw him out there to get torched again? Can’t send Oswalt out too quickly, either.
Perhaps they can pitch Craig Gentry again? Couldn’t be any worse, really.
G54: Rangers salvage finale, win 7-3
After feeling bad about ourselves from losing the first two of three in Anaheim, the Rangers bounced back against the Angels, and picked up the finale, 7-3.
The game started out with Matt Harrison & Dan Haren on the hill. Was a pretty good pitcher’s duel for awhile, the score was still 1-0 going into the fifth, but that’s where the pitcher’s duel broke down. 2-1 Rangers after 5. 3-2 Rangers after 6. 5-3 Rangers after 7. Then finally 7-3 Rangers after the 9th. [Read more…]
G53: Rangers lose late again to Angels, 3-2
Another loss late to the Angels. Was actually a good pitching duel between CJ Wilson & Yu Darvish, actually.
Then it got late in the game, and all I wanted to say was “Well, shit”.
I also had visions of Yogi Berra & Jackie Robinson during this game, too. I wonder why?
In retrospect, there is one thing to say. Golden sombrero time for Adrian Beltre, who struck out four times.

G52: Rangers lose late against Angels, 4-2
Colby Lewis deserved better than that.
G51: Rangers get demolished by M’s 21-8
G50: Rangers lose big on bad inning, 10-3
This game was fairly close for awhile, despite the final score. The Rangers were technically winning early, up 1-0 in the first inning (on double, wild pitch, and a groundout). Didn’t last long, though, as Scott Feldman cemented his departure from the Rangers, in my opinion with another bad outing. [Read more…]
G49: Napoli leads charge to win, 4-2
There was’t much going on in this game as we got to the later stages. In the bottom of the sixth, the teams were tied 1-1. By all accounts, both Matt Harrison & Kevin Millwood were both throwing decent games, even if Millwood’s pitch count was up there (97 in 5 innings). So it was when we got to the bottom of the sixth when things started to actually happen.. [Read more…]
Roy Oswalt signed
- P Roy Oswalt signed to a 1yr minor league deal [ Link ]
NOTES: In a move that has been expected for awhile, Roy Oswalt was signed to a minor league deal. Presumably to take the spot of Neftali Feliz in the rotation. Due to my Phillies connection, I’ve been watching Oswalt up there for a bit (of recent vintage). He’s still OK as a back of the rotation guy, but he’s not the #1 guy he was in Houston anymore. Still, I think it’s a good move. He can probably help us. Will take a few weeks to get him up to the majors, though. Probably not till towards the end of June, I’d wager.
I remember seeing Oswalt back in AA in Round Rock, when they were in the Houston organization. My wife and I used to travel down there regularly (before we had kids), and would take in some games there. What’s interesting about the Round Rock connection is when we saw him there, his manager was Jackie Moore, the current Rangers bench coach. His pitching coach then was Mike Maddux, the current Rangers pitching coach. His team owner was Nolan Ryan. Ahem. :)
