G54: Rangers salvage finale, win 7-3

Posted by Joe Siegler on June 5, 2012 at 9:25 am http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2012_06_03_texmlb_anamlb_1&mode=wrap>MLB.com Recap

After feeling bad about ourselves from losing the first two of three in Anaheim, the Rangers bounced back against the Angels, and picked up the finale, 7-3.

The game started out with Matt Harrison & Dan Haren on the hill.  Was a pretty good pitcher’s duel for awhile, the score was still 1-0 going into the fifth, but that’s where the pitcher’s duel broke down.  2-1 Rangers after 5.  3-2 Rangers after 6.  5-3 Rangers after 7.  Then finally 7-3 Rangers after the 9th. G53: Rangers lose late again to Angels, 3-2

Posted by Joe Siegler on June 3, 2012 at 11:18 am http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2012_06_02_texmlb_anamlb_1&mode=wrap>MLB.com Recap

Another loss late to the Angels.   Was actually a good pitching duel between CJ Wilson & Yu Darvish, actually.

Then it got late in the game, and all I wanted to say was “Well, shit”.

I also had visions of Yogi Berra & Jackie Robinson during this game, too.  I wonder why?

In retrospect, there is one thing to say.  Golden sombrero time for Adrian Beltre, who struck out four times.

Colby Lewis deserved better than that.

G51: Rangers get demolished by M’s 21-8

There just aren’t any words to describe this mess.   I’ll just go with this.  When I peeked in on the game at my church service on Wednesday evening, I saw the following screenshot, and gave up instantly.  :)

G50: Rangers lose big on bad inning, 10-3

Posted by Joe Siegler on June 3, 2012 at 11:09 am http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2012_05_29_seamlb_texmlb_1&mode=wrap>MLB.com Recap

This game was fairly close for awhile, despite the final score.  The Rangers were technically winning early, up 1-0 in the first inning (on double, wild pitch, and a groundout).  Didn’t last long, though, as Scott Feldman cemented his departure from the Rangers, in my opinion with another bad outing. G49: Napoli leads charge to win, 4-2

Posted by Joe Siegler on June 3, 2012 at 11:00 am http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2012_05_28_seamlb_texmlb_1&mode=wrap>MLB.com Recap

There was’t much going on in this game as we got to the later stages.  In the bottom of the sixth, the teams were tied 1-1.  By all accounts, both Matt Harrison & Kevin Millwood were both throwing decent games, even if Millwood’s pitch count was up there (97 in 5 innings).  So it was when we got to the bottom of the sixth when things started to actually happen.. Roy Oswalt signed

  • P Roy Oswalt signed to a 1yr minor league deal [ Link ]

NOTES: In a move that has been expected for awhile, Roy Oswalt was signed to a minor league deal.  Presumably to take the spot of Neftali Feliz in the rotation.  Due to my Phillies connection, I’ve been watching Oswalt up there for a bit (of recent vintage).  He’s still OK as a back of the rotation guy, but he’s not the #1 guy he was in Houston anymore.  Still, I think it’s a good move.  He can probably help us.  Will take a few weeks to get him up to the majors, though.  Probably not till towards the end of June, I’d wager.

I remember seeing Oswalt back in AA in Round Rock, when they were in the Houston organization.  My wife and I used to travel down there regularly (before we had kids), and would take in some games there.  What’s interesting about the Round Rock connection is when we saw him there, his manager was Jackie Moore, the current Rangers bench coach.  His pitching coach then was Mike Maddux, the current Rangers pitching coach.  His team owner was Nolan Ryan.  Ahem.  :)

G48: Rangers O bails out Yu again; win 12-6

Posted by Joe Siegler on May 28, 2012 at 12:16 am http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2012_05_27_tormlb_texmlb_1&mode=wrap>MLB.com Recap

The Rangers had another big win today, putting up 12 on the Blue Jays and supporting Yu Darvish quite nicely again.   All told in the weekend series against Toronto, the Rangers scored 34 runs on 50 hits in the three game series.   I’m reminded of Darth Vader saying “Impressive.  MOST impressive” at this time.  :)

Anyway, after this game was over, Yu Darvish leads the AL in wins with 7.   At that rate, he’ll win 21 by the end of the season.  Not bad for a first time major league pitcher (I refuse to call these Japanese imports rookies, they’re not).   But it wasn’t a clean cut win.

G47: Rangers win longest game of year, 8-7

Posted by Joe Siegler on May 27, 2012 at 11:46 pm http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2012_05_26_tormlb_texmlb_1&mode=wrap>MLB.com Recap

A big back and forth kind of game.   The lead was either tied or changed hands six times by my count.  Had a ton of frustration late, usually the level of frustration I get when we go to extra innings and don’t get the job done – because it usually means we lose late.  But this one ended up with a very fun ending.  Before that..

It was by far the longest game of the season, both in innings (13), and in time (4:38).  The game started at 2PM, and my wife works till 5 on Saturdays, so I wasn’t going to get a clean listen as I was watching the kids – which was OK.  Started at 2, listened for awhile, and had to stop when I took care of the kids more intently in the middle.  Then I passed out for about half an hour on the sofa (bad daddy), and ended up taking my son outside to play in the back yard.  Put the game on via the MLB At Bat app on my iPhone (not like the old days when I’d take a real radio out there).  Game was still going when my wife got home from work.  We even got into dinner, and it was still going.  :) [Read more…]

G46: Rangers unload and crush Jays, 14-3

Any game that starts off with a six spot in the bottom of the first inning is pretty much set.  Oh sure, no lead is insurmountable, but when you put up a six spot in the bottom of the first, you pretty much have this one done.  This game makes me want to break out this image..

About Site

This is a Texas Rangers fan site run by Joe Siegler. From 1999 through 2013 I used to do daily game updates, but got burnt out on that and stopped.

The site lives on as my favorite section to update I’m still very interested in. That is the Uniform Number history pages, which I’m quite proud of. Plus Ill write the odd article here and there.

I mostly spend my time in this Facebook group talking about the Rangers these days.

If you have any questions, please feel free to drop me a line.
