Moreland to DL

Posted by Joe Siegler on June 6, 2013 at 11:35 pm

  • 1B Mitch Moreland placed on 15 day DL
  • P Colby Lewis moved from 15 day to 60 day DL
  • IF Chris McGuiness purchased from AAA [ Link ]

NOTES: Moreland got hurt running the bases, which was a shame, as he’s been doing decently this season.  Didn’t want to lose him, and more to the point his momentum.   Colby Lewis wasn’t progressing as well as expected, so he was moved to the 60 day DL to make roster room for Chris McGuiness, who had his contract purchased, and will be making his major league debut.  That’s always fun, but hate when it comes at the expense of someone else.  Of course, it almost always does.

Ogando Back

Posted by Joe Siegler on June 5, 2013 at 11:28 pm

  • P Alexi Ogando activated from 15 day DL
  • P Joe Ortiz optioned to AAA [ Link ]

NOTES: Smokin’ Joe Ortiz (screw that, I’m still using the name) hasn’t been so smokin’ lately, so when it was time for Alexi Ogando to come off the DL, he was the casualty.  Shame, as I’ve liked Ortiz.  But you gotta get the job done.

G50: Rangers lose in 13 to M’s, 4-3

Posted by Joe Siegler on May 26, 2013 at 11:33 pm http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2013_05_26_texmlb_seamlb_1&mode=wrap>MLB.com Recap

Well, shit.  Thanks Joe Nathan.

Although, it was a nice catch by David Murphy to keep the game from ending in the bottom of the ninth when Nathan almost gave up TWO home runs.

Still, I don’t think anyone will have a problem with a 32-18 record after 50 games at all.  :)

G49: Holland bests Hernandez, 5-2

Posted by Joe Siegler on May 25, 2013 at 11:28 pm http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2013_05_25_texmlb_seamlb_1&mode=wrap>MLB.com Recap

I could write a lot about this game.   But this is all that matters to me:

Derek Holland: 6.2IP, 4H, 2R, 0ER, 3BB, 10K – W
Felix Hernandez: 5.2IP, 11H, 5R, 1BB, 9K, – L

Done.

Harrison to 60 day DL

Posted by Joe Siegler on May 25, 2013 at 10:25 am

  • P Matt Harrison moved from 15 day to 60 day DL
  • OF Joe Benson claimed on waivers from Twins and optioned to AA [ Link ]

NOTES: The claim of Benson is a “yeah OK” kind of transaction to me.  Don’t know anything about the guy.   Harrison going to the 60 day DL, though is more of a concern.  Now I know sometimes guys are moved around like that when room needs to be made for some other roster move, and they’re not really needed to be made.   But there has been some noise lately that Harrison is not progressing as he should, and his being moved to the 60 day DL is not a good sign.  :(

G48: Rangers beat Mariners, 9-5

Posted by Joe Siegler on May 24, 2013 at 11:16 pm http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2013_05_24_texmlb_seamlb_1&mode=wrap>MLB.com Recap

While I started watching this game on Friday – it was the one free TV game this week on regular television.   I unfortunately fell asleep watching it.  I guess as I get closer to 50, this kind of thing is going to be happening more often.  :(      [Read more…]

Lowe Gone, Teahen in

Posted by Joe Siegler on May 23, 2013 at 6:06 pm

  • P Derek Lowe placed on unconditional release waivers
  • IF Mark Teahen signed to minor league contract [ Link ]

NOTES: I guess we soured on Derek Lowe in a hurry.  I thought he was doing decently early on, and while I won’t say he was great or anything, I didn’t think he was the “holy crap, we need to dump this guy NOW” kind of pitcher.  He’ll probably catch on somewhere.  Mark Teahen is a name I know from playing fantasy baseball the last few years.  I know I had him on a few teams some years ago.  Probably signed as infield insurance, I can’t imagine this is any attempt to bring him in full time or anything.

G47: Wolf wins Rangers debut, 3-1

Posted by Joe Siegler on May 22, 2013 at 11:05 pm

Whenever I see a new pitcher making his Rangers debut, for some reason I always think he’s making his major league debut.   I mean, unless you’re a seasoned vet like a Roy Oswalt or something like that, if it’s a guy that *I* never heard of before, then I think “rookie”.  That was not the case with Wednesday’s starter Ross Wolf.  Wolf started for the Rangers, and for me, seemed to come out of nowhere.   Oh, you don’t just truly come out of nowhere, but I did think “Who is this guy?”   Turns out this guy was a great pitcher – at least for this night. G46: Rangers lose 1-0 game to A’s

Posted by Joe Siegler on May 21, 2013 at 11:59 pm http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2013_05_21_oakmlb_texmlb_1&mode=wrap>MLB.com Recap

This is a game I’ve written about several times over the now 15th season I’ve written about Rangers game for this blog.  1-0 losses can only be described one way, really.   You had outstanding pitching, but your offense was dead.  There really is no other story behind a 1-0 loss, is there? Several Roster Moves

Posted by Joe Siegler on May 21, 2013 at 6:00 pm

  • C AJ Pierzynski activated from 15 day DL
  • C Robinson Chirinos optioned to AAA
  • P Neal Cotts purchased from AAA
  • P Josh Lindblom optioned to AAA [ Link ]

NOTES: As I wrote the other day, Lindblom was someone whose minor league numbers said he would come up and do decently.   Well, that didn’t happen as such.   He came up, got hit around, and sent back down.   The Lindblom gamble cost Derek Lowe his roster spot, as he was DFA’ed (and not just sent down (granted, 13 earned runs in 13 innings will do that).   Still, Lindblom looked better numbers wise in the minors this year than he did in the spring.   Chirinos was just keeping the seat warm for AJ anyway, so that’s no surprise.    I don’t think Cotts is here long term, either.  We have a doubleheader coming up Monday, and that always means some weird roster moves.  I don’t see Cotts being here past next Monday, if not sooner.

About Site

This is a Texas Rangers fan site run by Joe Siegler. From 1999 through 2013 I used to do daily game updates, but got burnt out on that and stopped.

The site lives on as my favorite section to update I’m still very interested in. That is the Uniform Number history pages, which I’m quite proud of. Plus Ill write the odd article here and there.

I mostly spend my time in this Facebook group talking about the Rangers these days.

If you have any questions, please feel free to drop me a line.
