ST0: Rangers beat the Rangers 3-1

And so it begins. Well, sort of. Today was an intersquad game. Doesn’t count in the spring training standings or stats, but it’s the first baseball the Rangers have played since losing to the Giants in early November.
We got a box score for the game, there were reports from the game (1 | 2), but it was’t broadcast anywhere. Did see some footage on MLB Network, though. Where’d they get that? Film it themselves? I would have liked to have seen that anyway.
I’m not going to get into player reports, you can read the reports from the guys who get paid to do this. I’ll write once the games are “real”. :)
There’s another one of these Friday. Not sure what they’re doing Saturday, but the first game is Sunday (the charity game), and then the first broadcast game is Monday. Looking forward to that.

CJ Wilson named opening day starter

Much to nobody’s surprise, the Rangers named CJ Wilson as their opening day starter for 2011. With Cliff Lee out of the picture, it pretty much was down to Wilson & Colby Lewis.

It’s an interesting case, as before last year, both of those guys weren’t starters. Well, Lewis was, but he was off in Japan, having “ended up” there due to his failures in the major leagues. CJ Wilson was a reliever. The battle for the 2011 Opening Day starter was between two guys who weren’t starters for the Rangers a year ago. Well, Lewis technically was, as he had signed by then, but you know what I mean. :)

Don’t think you would have gone wrong either way, but let’s home the pressures of opening day starter don’t get to CJ Wilson. He feels in much the same position to me as Scott Feldman was going into last year. And Feldman tanked. There’s a lot of talk about how the increased workload on Wilson could impact him in the upcoming season. Hope not. Be nice to get one of these things to go right long term, eh?

Neftali Feliz in MLB 2k11

Just saw a video clip on mlb.com, which aired on MLBN’s “MLB Tonight” show. It’s about Neftali Feliz being motion captured for the MLB 2K11 game coming out next month. Since MLBAM STILL doesn’t allow streaming of their video, I have to just link over to it.

The Rangers crying kid video

Am I the only person on the net who doesn’t like this new video going around of some kid crying because Michael Young is being traded? It seems kind of cruel to be honest, and I didn’t find it funny at all.
Not entirely sure what kind of parent would force their children to cry like that, and THEN put it on the Internet for folks to laugh at.
And no, I will NOT be linking to it. Sigh.

New Scoreboard in MLB 11: The Show

Another trailer is out for MLB 11: The Show, and this one showcases how the stadiums in the game have their own individual scoreboards. They’re supposed to behave how the scoreboards in each stadium actually do behave.
To my surprise, they have the new scoreboard stuff for 2011 in this game already, which is definitely cool. Check out the embedded video to see it:

I can’t say I’m surprised given how much he’s been pushed around the field lately, now being pushed mostly off of it. It seems inevitable given how much noise about it we’ve heard the last few days.
If he is moved, I’ll write about it a little more then. Just kind of waiting back and seeing what will happen if he is moved.
