This was a game that I got to watch on TV. I sat down with my iPad to score the game, grabbed a beer, I was ready to enjoy this. And then I fell asleep on the sofa. I was wiped for some reason. It wasn’t super late, started at 8PM, but due to family concerns, I had to wait till around 10PM to start it, so I couldn’t make it through the whole game. What I did see though was a great pitching matchup.
ST20: Borbon good, but team not; we lose 6-2
Another game I didn’t see, but again, another loss. Too many this spring. This one came to the Reds (who used to be in Florida during March until recently). Odd thing about this game is that there was really only one part of it I’d call “awful”.
ST19: Cubs bounce back, get Rangers 11-4
Colby Lewis did this game what he did a few too many times in 2011. Gave up home runs. If I remember right, Lewis lead the AL in home runs allowed last year, and in this game he gave up two of them in his 5 innings of work. Also allowed a walk and NINE hits. A dangerous combination. As it was, he gave up six earned runs with that combination, and it was a pretty ugly outing. Not what you want to see coming into the final stretch of spring. Bah.
ST18: Rangers take care of Cubs, 6-2
Neftali Feliz started this game, and after his past outings, I think several Ranger fans (myself included) were watching this kind of expecting a bad outing, and leading to a big round of “can he really do this”? Well, he answered that with a great outing. Went three innings, allowed just two hits and a walk, punching out two. No runs being the biggest stat. But he came out after just three innings. That was not intentional, he was taken out for precautionary reasons. Later on it was said it was due to right shoulder stiffness. That’s one of those generic injuries that can be nothing, or a mask for something huge. I don’t think anyone likes seeing a player come out, but one that had something to prove like Neftali.. I bet he wasn’t interested in coming out of the game, either. We’ll see what happens with him over the next week or so, but it would be fairly annoying if he had to go on the DL. The obvious answer to that is Ogando in the rotation, and someone new in the pen. But we don’t want to “Joba” Ogando, either, so it might be best to pick one and leave him there.
Derek Holland’s Extension
Right as I sliced my hand on Wednesday, the word came down that Derek Holland and hte Rangers had agreed to a long term extension. Earlier this off season we had agreed to a one year deal, avoiding arbitration. That deal was worth $504,700. It’s been voided/replaced/whatever by this new deal which goes into effect immediately. This seems like a great deal for both sides here.
More Roster Moves

- P Joe Beimel, P Mitch Stetter, & OF Conor Jackson released. [ Link ]
Remarks: I never figured any of these guys to make the club, except possibly Hamburger. I suspect we’ll see him back later if there’s a need. But there’s no surprises to me with the other guys at all.
Several Sent Down
The following players were sent to minor league camp:
- OF Leonys Martin, 3B Mike Olt, OF Engel Beltre, C Chris Robinson, IF Greg Miclat, & P Ben Synder
Remarks: Martin was probably the only one of the group with an outside shot to make the club, but everything had to fall the right way. Olt and Beltre could be back during the year depending on what happens with injuries. I’d say Martin is probably back after the trading deadline if we make a move.
A slight delay
I will have a delay of a few days updating the site. Yesterday I accidentally stabbed myself in the left hand with a steak knife, and caused a pretty deep wound. As such, I have my hand in a bandage, and I’m not supposed to be doing much of anything with the hand for a little bit. So long posts are out, since I have to type with one hand for the most part. Will catch up when my hand is feeling better.
Dallas Stars
Was down at the Stars game tonight. Was a great game. Shot this of the winning goal in the shootout! :)

Remarks: Nothing surprising here at all. It’s March 20th, so it’s time to start paring down the guys who won’t break camp with the big club.
