September Callups

Posted by Joe Siegler on September 2, 2014 at 3:44 pm

  • P Lisalverto Bonilla recalled from AAA
  • IF Luis Sardinas recalled from AAA
  • P Nick Tepesch recalled from AAA
  • P Michael Kirkman purchased from AAA
  • P Tanner Scheppers moved from 15 day to 60 day DL [ Link ]

NOTES: Well, this is the September callups.  Oddly enough, of the five names above, only one of them is truly “new”.  The rest have made appearances for the Rangers somewhere before.   That’s the way this season has gone.   Bonilla is the other guy we got in the Michael Young trade. I’ll be curious to see what Bonilla can do, the rest of the guys we know about already.

There’s actually one more we’ll bring up on Thursday, but he’s not ready quite yet, I believe for a personal reason.

Several Roster Moves

Posted by Joe Siegler on August 30, 2014 at 9:22 am

  • P Robbie Ross recalled from AAA
  • P Derek Holland activated from 60 day DL and recalled
  • P Nick Tepesch optioned to AAA
  • IF/OF Nick Carp designated for assignment [ Link ]

NOTES: Well, this isn’t the big “September callup”, but it kind of feels like it.  Robbie Ross was called up to cover Miles Mikolas, who was scratched.   Nick Tepesch was sent down, and Nick Carp was DFA’ed.    However, oddly enough Derek Holland was formally activated today, which is odd, as he’s not starting until Tuesday in Kansas City.  That they’d bring him up a few days ahead of time was a bit of a puzzler.   Nice to see him come back, I’m sure it’s more for his head than anything else, as it won’t make any difference in the standings.  :)

Adduci to concussion DL

Posted by Joe Siegler on August 29, 2014 at 9:04 am

  • 1B/OF Jim Adduci placed on 7 day concussion DL
  • IF/OF Ryan Rua purchased from AAA
  • P Phil Irwin placed on release waivers [ Link ]

NOTES: Jim Adduci was placed on the concussion DL after banging his head on the wall sliding to catch a foul ball.   Felt bad for him, because while no one wants any injury to happen, I hate seeing ones like that, where they get hurt hurt just playing the game, not doing anything dumb, or stupid or anything like that.

Ryan Rua is the latest in the line of “who” filling our 25 man roster this season.

Tomas Telis purchased, Choo done for season

Posted by Joe Siegler on August 25, 2014 at 9:55 am

  • OF Shin-Soo Choo placed on 15 day DL (retro to Aug 24)
  • OF Michael Choice recalled from AAA
  • C Tomas Telis purchased from AAA [ Link ]

NOTES: Well, the barrage of injuries continues, even way past the point where it will make any difference.  Shin-Soo Choo has been officially shut down for the rest of the 2014 season with a bone spur in his elbow.  It’s only year one, so I’m not ready to put his contract signing up there with Chan Ho Park, but so far, this feels like bust.  I hope he turns it around next year.   Michael Choice was called up, another guy I had super high hopes for when the season started.

In other news, Tomas Telis (who?) was purchased from AAA, and becomes the 57th overall player the Rangers will have used on the big club this year when he actually starts.   He’ll also be the 13th player making his major league debut for us in 2014.   Just wow.

Geovany Soto traded to A’s

Posted by Joe Siegler on August 24, 2014 at 3:45 pm

  • C Geovany Soto traded to Oakland A’s for cash [ Link ]

NOTES: The parade of backup catchers being moved out continues with Geovany Soto being moved to the A’s.  He’s not going to be here in 2015 anyway.  Would have liked some sort of spare part at least, but it was a trade for cash.  I always liked Soto when he came up with the Cubs originally.  Shame he lost his ability to hit almost after his first season in the bigs.  Good catcher, can’t hit worth a darn, though.

C Chris Gimenez traded to Indians

Posted by Joe Siegler on August 23, 2014 at 3:44 pm

  • C Chris Gimenez traded to Cleveland for $100,000 in cash [ Link ]

NOTES: Well, Gimenez I liked.  He wasn’t going to be a Pudge, but he was an OK backup.   However, likely not going to be here next season, so probably good to give him some playing time elsewhere for the rest of the season.   He was outrighted to the Rangers minors system, and with their season over, moving him elsewhere probably allows him to play in the bigs for the rest of the 2

Jon Edwards Purchased

Posted by Joe Siegler on August 15, 2014 at 8:42 am

  • P Jon Edwards purchased from AAA
  • P Robbie Ross optioned back to AAA [ Link ]

NOTES: Well, so much for the second go around of Robbie Ross. Back to the pile with him.   In his place is another guy who I’ve never heard of pitching for the Rangers.  It’s very much a theme this season.

Robbie Ross Back

Posted by Joe Siegler on August 14, 2014 at 8:06 am

  • P Robbie Ross recalled from AAA
  • P Nate Adcock optioned to AAA [ Link ]

NOTES: The way this season has gone, might as well try Robbie Ross again.   Not confident there, though.

About Site

This is a Texas Rangers fan site run by Joe Siegler. From 1999 through 2013 I used to do daily game updates, but got burnt out on that and stopped.

The site lives on as my favorite section to update I’m still very interested in. That is the Uniform Number history pages, which I’m quite proud of. Plus Ill write the odd article here and there.

I mostly spend my time in this Facebook group talking about the Rangers these days.

If you have any questions, please feel free to drop me a line.
