September Callup News

Posted by Joe Siegler on September 1, 2012 at 4:14 pm

  • P Tyler Tufts purchased from AA and immediately placed on 15 day DL (OUCH, actually happened Aug 31)
  • P Robbie Ross placed on 15 day DL
  • OF Leonys Martin recalled from AAA
  • P Martin Perez recalled from AAA
  • IF Jurickson Profar purchased from AA
  • P Tanner Scheppers recalled from AAA
  • IF Brandon Snyder recalled from AAA
  • P Yoshinori Tateyama recalled from AAA
  • P Miguel De Los Santos designated for assignment

NOTES: Several of these are no big surprise.  The move for Tyler Tufts sounds painful for sure.   The biggest deal here is of course Jurickson Profar.  I know Jamey Newberg is positively salivating over this one.  :)

Young Back

Posted by Joe Siegler on August 27, 2012 at 4:04 pm

  • IF Michael Young reinstated from Paternity List
  • IF Luis Hernandez designated for assignment [ Link ]

NOTES: Michael Young is back from the paternity list after his wife had a kid.  That’s about it.  It cost Luis Hernandez his roster spot, though.   Hernandez was outrighted to AAA on the 29th when he cleared waivers.

Uehara Back

Posted by Joe Siegler on August 26, 2012 at 3:57 pm

  • P Koji Uehara activated from DL
  • P Tanner Scheppers optioned to AAA [ Link ]

NOTES: Koji Uehara, the guy who we tried to dump in the offseason and refused is back.  Hopefully he can pitch.   A “yawn” move.

Young to Paternity List

Posted by Joe Siegler on August 24, 2012 at 5:00 pm

  • IF/DH Michael Young placed on paternity list
  • IF Luis Hernandez called up from AAA [ Link ]

NOTES: Michael Young’s wife had their third child the other night, so Young was placed on the MLB paternity list.  The Rangers called up Luis Hernandez to handle the roster spot vacated by Young’s departure to look after his family.   I’m a little unclear on technicalities on this.  Does this callup count as an “option” for Hernandez, or since it’s just paternity list for no more than 4 days or so, does it NOT count?  Anyone know?

Dempster Back

Posted by Joe Siegler on August 20, 2012 at 6:00 pm

Remember that transaction three days ago with Ryan Dempster & Leonys Martin?  Reverse it.   That’s pretty much it.  :)

Dempster on Restricted List

Posted by Joe Siegler on August 17, 2012 at 10:16 pm

  • P Ryan Dempster placed on 15 day DL
  • OF Leonys Martin recalled from AAA [ Link ]

NOTES: Apparently, Ryan Dempster has some sort of odd visa issue relative to Canada, and he’s not permitted to enter the country.   Don’t know why, but there it is.   Due to that, the Rangers put him on a “restricted list”, and called up Leonys Martin to take his 25 man roster spot.  Roy Oswalt will take his start in Toronto on Saturday, and probably frown on the bench again.   This will go away after the Sunday game when the team returns to the US.   Odd transaction, I admit.

Rangers sign Koyie Hill

Posted by Joe Siegler on August 14, 2012 at 10:14 pm

  • C Koyie Hill signed to a minor league contract, assigned to AAA [ Link ]

NOTES: I suspect this was done solely to fortify the minor league catching situation.  We’ve burnt through rather a lot of catchers lately, needed someone down there.

Napoli to DL

Posted by Joe Siegler on August 11, 2012 at 10:12 pm

  • C Mike Napoli placed on 15 day DL
  • C Luis Martinez recalled from AAA [ Link ]

NOTES: Napoli has been pretty flat all season, and it could be just due to him being hurt.   I suspect he might be done for the season, as going down the stretch, we don’t need a guy who isn’t hitting a whole lot.    Our catching situation has changed a lot, as Soto is now “the guy”, and Luis Martinez (who) is now the backup.  I guess that next year we resign Napoli, and keep Soto as the backup.   We’ll see.

Mark Lowe activated

Posted by Joe Siegler on August 10, 2012 at 4:00 pm

  • P Mark Lowe activated from DL
  • IF Alberto Gonzalez designated for assignment [ Link ]

NOTES: Well, someone had to leave the 25 man roster when Mark Lowe was returned.  However, we sacrificed a bench guy to do it.  I know we can use the pitching help right now, so that’s likely why the switch.  Alberto Gonzalez has been on the 25 man roster since opening day, so it’s probably disappointing for him to be DFA’ed at this point.   Gonzalez never lit me on fire excitement wise.  You always need guys like that, but the 2012 edition of the bench hasn’t been nearly as exciting (to me) as the editions from the last couple of seasons before this one.   Hopefully Mark Lowe comes back and gets the job done, as we need the help, that’s for sure.

Mike Olt purchased

Posted by Joe Siegler on August 2, 2012 at 6:39 pm

  • 1B/3B Mike Olt (#9) purchased from AA
  • IF/OF Brandon Snyder optioned to AAA [ Link ]

NOTES: So, Mike Olt, the guy who so much talk was centered around (if not realistically) during the trade deadline is brought up to make his major league debut with the big club.  Olt will be wearing #9, and he displaces Brandon Snyder, who hasn’t done a lot – a common theme for our bench this year.

About Site

This is a Texas Rangers fan site run by Joe Siegler. From 1999 through 2013 I used to do daily game updates, but got burnt out on that and stopped.

The site lives on as my favorite section to update I’m still very interested in. That is the Uniform Number history pages, which I’m quite proud of. Plus Ill write the odd article here and there.

I mostly spend my time in this Facebook group talking about the Rangers these days.

If you have any questions, please feel free to drop me a line.
