2026 Uniform Numbers

Posted by Joe Siegler on January 31, 2026 at 8:41 am Leave a Comment

A couple of days ago I got my hands on the full Spring Training roster for the Texas Rangers for the 2026 season.  It’s always a fun time for me, which means I can update my uniform number pages with the new stuff for the new season.  Been doing this site since the late 90’s, and while I stopped doing daily game updates ages ago, I still vigorously update the uniform numbers section. It’s always been a thing for me, so I focus a LOT on uniform numbers.

As I always do, when doing the first update for the season, I take notes as I update all the pages.  These notes cover several subjects – number changes, new guys, things not assigned, etc.  That’s what this post is.  My summary of all the uniform number assignments as we enter spring training in a scant few days in February.  Here goes….

Number Changes

As is the case, a handful of guys will have new numbers starting spring.  This also frequently changes at the start of the season too – which I’ll cover at that time.  But for now, here’s who’s different starting off spring training…

  • Joc Pederson changes from #4 to #3
  • Michael Helman changes from #24 to #23
  • Chris Martin changes from #55 to #31
  • Patrick Murphy changes from #59 to #52
  • Zak Kent changes from #78 to #65
  • Aaron Zavala changes from #97 to #79

New Guys

Also, there’s always a bunch of new (to us) players.  Either coming to the Rangers for the first time ever, or minor league guys making their first appearances.  I’m not covering all of the minor leaguers in camp here, just a few of the bigger names.  Guys in the upper 90’s are the kind of I’m not dealing with here.

  • 1 – MacKenzie Gore
  • 9 – Danny Jansen
  • 13 – Tyler Alexander
  • 14 – Tyler Wade
  • 16 – Jakob Junis
  • 24 – Brandon Nimmo
  • 37 – Jonah Bride
  • 40 – Austin Gomber
  • 43 – Alexis Diaz
  • 47 – Willie MacIver
  • 63 – Michel Otañez
  • 70 – Nabil Crismatt
  • 72 – David Davalillo

Coaching Staff

Most of the coaching staff is new, and I could have put them under “new guys”, but decided to give all the coaches their own section.  Two of these guys are former Rangers players that I’m glad to see back.

  • 55 – Skip Schumaker (manager)
  • 64 – Corey Ragsdale (3b coach)
  • 73 – Alex Cintron (hitting coach)
  • 81 – Luis Ureta (bench coach)
  • 82 – Eric Dorton (asst hitting coach)
  • 83 – Jordan Tiegs (pitching coach)
  • 84 – Colby Suggs (bullpen coach)
  • 85 – Dave Bush (asst pitching coach)
  • 87 – Brett Hayes (catching coach)
  • 88 – Rod Barajas (QC coach)
  • 89 – Justin Viele (hitting coach)
  • 96 – Travis Jankowski (1b coach)

Not assigned

There’s a fair amount of unassigned numbers going into spring.  I’m not counting retired numbers in here, because those are done.  These are numbers that for for whatever reason just aren’t currently assigned.  Going back several decades the Rangers generally will keep a number unassigned for a time after a popular player leaves the organization (for whatever reason).  For example, Elvis after he was traded to Oakland had his #1 unassigned for four years.  Now some of these will get assigned as other guys are signed for spring.  To that, here’s the current list as of 31 Jan.

  • 2 – Marcus Semien
  • 4 – Joc Pederson
  • 12 – Chad Wallace
  • 15 – Bruce Bochy
  • 18 – Tucker Barnhardt
  • 22 – Jon Gray
  • 25 – Dylan Moore
  • 27 – Tony Beasley
  • 28 – Jonah Heim
  • 33 – Billy McKinney
  • 38 – Dustin Harris
  • 41 – Hoby Milner
  • 44 – Rowdy Tellez
  • 45 – JT Chargois
  • 46 – Patrick Corbin
  • 49 – Michael Plassmeyer
  • 50 – David Buchanan
  • 51 – Tyler Mahle
  • 53 – Adolis Garcia
  • 54 – Danny Coulombe
  • 58 – Carl Edwards Jr
  • 68 – Marc Church
  • 71 – Jacob Webb

There were also a handful of guys on the roster chart that had no assigned number.  That will change between now and the 10th of Feb when pitchers & catchers formally report.  That’s because guys can’t go on the field with a question mark as a number.  haha.  But seriously, these are the guys who aren’t assigned a number yet (to my knowledge): Carter Baumler, Declan Cronin, Jose Herrera, Richie Martin Jr, & Andrew Velazquez.   In addition, since the roster was sent out, we’ve signed two more players who will also need numbers.  They are Cal Quantrill & Nick Pratto.

That’s it!  The roster is loaded, my uniform number pages are updated for the start of Spring 2026.  Bring on the baseball, and GO RANGERS!

About Site

This is a Texas Rangers fan site run by Joe Siegler. From 1999 through 2013 I used to do daily game updates, but got burnt out on that and stopped.

The site lives on as my favorite section to update I’m still very interested in. That is the Uniform Number history pages, which I’m quite proud of. Plus Ill write the odd article here and there.

I mostly spend my time in this Facebook group talking about the Rangers these days.

If you have any questions, please feel free to drop me a line.
