Scott Franzke

Posted by Joe Siegler on April 27, 2007 at 12:27 pm

Remember the old post game show guy Scott Franzke? When KRLD dropped the show for a year, we lost Franzke to the Phillies, who was first hired just to do the same thing there he did here. But he’s now in their broadcast team. Philadelphia does things differently than we do here. In Texas, we have dedicated radio & TV teams. Not so in Philly. After a couple of innings, they rotate between TV and radio, so you get to hear/see everyone in one game (I believe it’s everyone).
Anyway, there’s an article about Franzke and the rest of the Phillies broadcast team over here at this Philly sports blog. They seem to like him over there – which is good. I was rather annoyed when we let him go. I don’t think I’ve listened to his replacement here in Texas more than once or twice.

Franzke is great. Thanks! He and Larry Andersen (the pitcher the Astros traded to the Red Sox to get Jeff Bagwell) are a fantastic, entertaining team. It’s the only good thing Dallas has ever given Philly.
Well, we gave you T.O. And Marlon Byrd. Guess we’re even. Wait! George Mifflin Dallas was from Philly. Never mind.

You’re right, we do like Scott Franzke here in Philly! When he got here, he was met with some skepticism after the Phillies let Scott Graham go, who we felt would be Harry Kalas’ heir apparent. Graham was a fantastic broadcaster and many Phillies fans were upset by his dismissal. But Franzke has really proved himself here in Philadelphia, and him and Larry Anderson make a great team.
The one broadcaster WE CANNOT STAND is Tom McCarthy. He’s so vanilla and predictable… you watch this guy and you wonder if he ever disagrees with anything the club does. At least the other broadcasters will call out the team when they do something questionable (as professionally as they can). But he toes the company line. Not to mention that he’s a sellout. He left the Phillies for the Mets only to come back. If there’s any justice, he would be back broadcasting AA ball, something he did for almost 10 years. How he got to the majors is anyone’s guess. He’s gotta have pictures of someone in a compromising position. He’s gotta have pictures.
But we love Franzke! I understand he’s from Dallas, so maybe one day he’ll rejoin the Rangers, but for our sake, I hope not!

About Site

This is a Texas Rangers fan site run by Joe Siegler. From 1999 through 2013 I used to do daily game updates, but got burnt out on that and stopped.

The site lives on as my favorite section to update I’m still very interested in. That is the Uniform Number history pages, which I’m quite proud of. Plus Ill write the odd article here and there.

I mostly spend my time in this Facebook group talking about the Rangers these days.

If you have any questions, please feel free to drop me a line.
