Jamey Wright Decision

Posted by Joe Siegler on March 25, 2007 at 7:30 am

It’s a good thing I’m down in Florida, so I can’t be around all the Ranger fans throwing themselves off buildings because of the Jamey Wright fifth starter decision. The screams must be horrible back there in the Metroplex. I just have this to say.
At least they didn’t pick Bruce Chen!
At least I got to see Fabio Castro pitch yesterday in Sarasota against the Reds.. Oh wait, that wasn’t in a Rangers uniform. :(
This kind of decision is why the Rangers can never be like the Twins or Tigers. Because we’re not willing to give the kids a chance, and be damned everything else. Always looking to catch lightning in a bottle with mediocre veterans – Pedro Astacio anyone?

I think it’s a stretch to refer to the 25 year old Kameron Loe, now headed into his third major league season, as a “kid.” And your point doesn’t really make sense, because the Rangers have already penciled in two “kids” who are younger than Loe (Tejeda and McCarthy).
It seems a lot of people in the Metroplex support this move. Jamey Wright has shown some great stuff in the spring. I don’t think they are looking for lightning in a bottle from the 5th starter, but realize that they need options. Kam Loe has shown great stuff too, but he’ll be ready to jump in if one of the other young guys falters, and I’m sure they fear his injury prone-ness as well.
Also, before mentioning the Twins in this context again you might want to check out who’s in their rotation this year. They have some of the best young pitchers in baseball (Garza, Baker, etc.) and they are all most likely starting the season in AAA as Ramon Ortiz (33), Sidney Ponson (30), and Carlos Silva (27) fill out their rotation.

No, I agree with you Joe…sure we may have young pitching in the rotation now, but that’s just because we have nobody else!
Chris Young was a shot in the head. Sure we get Aki but please, there’s great starting pitching right down the drain. John Danks this year…Tom Grieve said in the telecast yesterday that he believes the Rangers made a good trade with Danks for Mccarthy because both are young but Mccarthy is ready to play NOW. He said it’s a sign that we are ready to win now. I agree with that statement except for the fact that we need A LOT more if we are to win now.
I’m not terribly dissapointed with the Jamey Wright decision. He has his spurts where he will pitch decent enough…but never championship quality.

Jamey Wright sucks. That’s all I have to say.

About Site

This is a Texas Rangers fan site run by Joe Siegler. From 1999 through 2013 I used to do daily game updates, but got burnt out on that and stopped.

The site lives on as my favorite section to update I’m still very interested in. That is the Uniform Number history pages, which I’m quite proud of. Plus Ill write the odd article here and there.

I mostly spend my time in this Facebook group talking about the Rangers these days.

If you have any questions, please feel free to drop me a line.
