25 Man Roster Set

Posted by Joe Siegler on April 2, 2006 at 12:41 am

There were of course a boatload of roster moves made, but the 25 man roster has been set. Unless I’ve missed something, this is what our roster will be like on Monday..
Starting Pitchers:
Kevin Millwood
Vicente Padilla
Kameron Loe
R.A. Dickey
John Koronka
Relief Pitchers:
Akinori Otsuka
Antonio Alfonseca
Brian Shouse
Fabio Castro
Francisco Cordero
Joaquin Benoit
Scott Feldman
Catchers:
Gerald Laird
Rod Barajas
Infielders:
D’Angelo Jimenez
Hank Blalock
Ian Kinsler
Mark Teixeira
Michael Young
Mark DeRosa
Outfielders:
Adrian Brown
Brad Wilkerson
Kevin Mench
Laynce Nix
DH:
Phil Nevin
Update: It was confirmed on the Rangers site a few minutes ago right after I posted this. Link.
Here’s a list of all the roster moves made to do all this.

  • P John Wasdin signed to a minor league contract
  • OF Gary Matthews Jr placed on 15 day DL, retroactive to Mar 24
  • P Adam Eaton put on 15 day DL, retroactive to Mar 30
  • OF David Dellucci traded to Philadelphia Phillies for P Robinson Tejeda & OF Jake Blalock
  • P Robinson Tejeda optioned to AAA
  • Purchased contracts of Antonio Alfonseca, Adrian Brown, & D’Angelo Jimenez
  • P Erasmo Ramirez designated for assignment
  • P John Rheinecker optioned to AAA
  • OF Adam Hyzdu assigned to minor league camp
  • P Omar Beltre put on the restricted list [ link ]

Since so much happened, I’ll need some time to digest it all. Kind of sad to see Dellucci go, I think he would have gotten a lot more playing time had he stayed a Ranger. I can’t see him breaking the OF group up there in Philly with any kind of regularity at all.

I thought this might be a good time to mention a list I had compiled in the offseason. I was planning on doing a piece with a comment on every player that wore a Rangers uniform in 2005. Never got around to doing that, but I did save the list of players. The folks above the line of dashes were the opening day roster of 25. The ones below it were all the additional players in the order they made an appearance.
Carlos Almanzar
Doug Brocail
Ryan Bukvich
Francisco Cordero
Ryan Drese
R.A. Dickey
Ron Mahay
Chan Ho Park
Matt Riley
Kenny Rogers
Brian Shouse
Chris Young
Sandy Alomar, Jr
Rod Barajas
Hank Blalock
Mark DeRosa
Adrian Gonzalez
Alfonso Soriano
Mark Teixeira
Michael Young
Chad Allen
David Dellucci
Richard Hidalgo
Gary Matthews, Jr
Kevin Mench

About Site

This is a Texas Rangers fan site run by Joe Siegler. From 1999 through 2013 I used to do daily game updates, but got burnt out on that and stopped.

The site lives on as my favorite section to update I’m still very interested in. That is the Uniform Number history pages, which I’m quite proud of. Plus Ill write the odd article here and there.

I mostly spend my time in this Facebook group talking about the Rangers these days.

If you have any questions, please feel free to drop me a line.
