ST19: Rangers lose again, 10-5 to Brewers

Posted by Joe Siegler on March 22, 2006 at 6:08 pm

Well, we’ve turned into a pretty streaky team trying to tread water in spring training. We lose again, 10-5 to the Brewers to drop to 8-10-1 overall. The two pitchers we were hoping would grab onto the fifth starter position really both stunk up the joint.
Edison Volquez went 2 innings, gave up 5ER on 5H, 0K, & 3BB – one home run.
Juan Dominguez went 3.1 innings, gave up the other 5ER on 6H, 0K, & 3BB – two home runs.
Not good at all. For guys that should be getting into their game given the opportunity, I’d expect more. Moreso from Dominguez who has had a small taste of success at the majors already. Volquez I’ll cut some slack to given how meteoric his rise was through the system last year.
Offensively, the big “standout” was Mark DeRosa, who went 2 for 3, with an RBI and 2 runs scored. Laird, Jimenez, & Durazo scored our other runs. Given I was finishing up my big project at work, I didn’t get to pay any attention to the game, so I don’t know how any of it really “felt”.

Game Recap
PHOENIX (AP) — Corey Koskie homered twice and the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Texas Rangers 10-5 on Wednesday.
Koskie, acquired in an offseason trade with Toronto, connected leading off the third inning against Edison Volquez, then added a two-run shot off Juan Dominguez. The third baseman has four homers this spring.
Outfielder Gabe Gross, acquired in a separate offseason trade with the Blue Jays, hit a massive solo homer in the fifth off Dominguez. The ball traveled about 470 feet.
Geoff Jenkins had a pair of doubles for the Brewers. Milwaukee catcher Damian Miller left in the third inning with tightness in his lower back.
Volquez allowed five earned runs and five hits in two-plus innings. He walked three.
Tomo Ohka, who turned in a shaky start for the Brewers in his previous outing Friday against Kansas City, struck out his first four batters on his way to seven strikeouts in five innings. Ohka gave up seven hits and four runs — two earned.
Knuckleballer Jared Fernandez continued his strong bid to win a roster spot with Milwaukee by pitching two scoreless innings. Fernandez, who allowed one hit, has a 3.00 ERA this spring.
Mark DeRosa had two hits and scored twice for the Rangers.
Miller’s replacement, Mark Johnson, singled home a run in his first at-bat and later added another hit.
Notes
The Brewers optioned outfielder Dave Krynzel and right-handers Ben Hendrickson and Dennis Sarfate to Triple-A Nashville.

About Site

This is a Texas Rangers fan site run by Joe Siegler. From 1999 through 2013 I used to do daily game updates, but got burnt out on that and stopped.

The site lives on as my favorite section to update I’m still very interested in. That is the Uniform Number history pages, which I’m quite proud of. Plus Ill write the odd article here and there.

I mostly spend my time in this Facebook group talking about the Rangers these days.

If you have any questions, please feel free to drop me a line.
