My
Commentary
As bad as losing both games of a double
header to go to a 3 game losing streak is, losing a walk-off loss in the bottom
of the ninth to go to a four game losing streak was even worse.
My wife and I were out when this game was on (we saw Runaway Bride, a very funny movie), but when I came home, I saw the score, and got disgusted. As I didn't see or hear any of this game, I'm not going to do commentary, but hell. Four in a row? To the Tigers and the White Sox? Yeah, this makes me feel good going into Cleveland on Monday, even if we do win the last game.
Pudge got his 20th steal of the season, giving him a first in all of MLB history - the first catcher to steal 20 bases and hit 20 RBI's in one season. I wonder if he'll get 20 doubles as well. :)
Glynn was activated, and I'm sure he'll be sent back down after this. Probably not seen again in 1999. Especially if we're in a pennant race in late September.

Game Recap
CHICAGO (TICKER) -- The Texas Rangers are struggling and the Oakland Athletics have taken notice.
The Rangers wasted homers on consecutive pitches by Rafael Palmeiro and Todd Zeile with two outs in the top of the ninth inning of an 8-7 loss to the Chicago White Sox, who won on Paul Konerko's sacrifice fly in the bottom half.
Ray Durham led off the bottom of the ninth with a single against rookie Jeff Zimmerman (9-2). Mike Caruso was credited with an infield single when third baseman Zeile slipped trying to field his bunt, with Durham racing to third.
After Frank Thomas was intentionally walked to load the bases, Durham chose not to test right fielder Roberto Kelly on a short fly ball by Magglio Ordonez. Konerko fell behind 0-2 but worked the count full before lifting a fly to medium right. This time, Durham tested Kelly and beat the throw home.
"He has a good slider and I knew he would throw it on 3-2," Konerko said. "I've been hitting better because I've been waiting for pitches to hit. When I get 0-2 or 1-2, I just try to make contact."
"He had good discipline tonight. He went down 0-2 and worked it back to 3-2," White Sox manager Jerry Manuel said. "Once he laid off a couple pitches, I was confident he would hit the ball and get it in the air."
Konerko matched a career high with four RBI and Thomas added three hits and three runs scored for the White Sox, who have won three straight following a season-high seven-game losing streak.
"In order for us to put a long streak together, our pitching has to be there," Manuel said. "(Jim) Parque has struggled and that is a concern. I think our bullpen is strong enough but our pitching would have to carry us."
White Sox closer Bob Howry (3-3) started the ninth with a 7-5 lead and set down the first two batters before Palmeiro sent a 3-2 pitch over the center-field wall for his 30th home run and 100th RBI. Zeile drilled Howry's next offering into the left-field seats for a 7-7 tie.
Losers of four straight games for the fourth time this season, the Rangers had their lead in the American League West Division sliced to 4 1/2 games over surging Oakland.
"Ten days ago we were the greatest thing since sliced bread. We'll be back," Rangers manager Johnny Oates said. "Things were going in our favor and now they are not. We'll weather the storm. To make it turn we have to catch the ball and make pitches. It will turn."
"When we tied the game, we had Zimmerman on the mound who has been perfect all year," Palmeiro said. "I felt that our chances were good but things happen in bad streaks."
Texas' Ivan Rodriguez stole his 20th base in the third inning, making him the first catcher in major league history with 20 homers and 20 steals in one season.
The White Sox erased a 5-2 deficit against starter Mike Morgan in the sixth. Thomas led off with a single and moved to third on Ordonez's double. Konerko ripped a hard smash that handcuffed Zeile and skipped down the left-field line, scoring both runners.
Chris Singleton singled home Konerko to lift Chicago into a 5-5 tie and Tim Crabtree relieved. Carlos Lee singled and Brook Fordyce's base hit one out later loaded the bases. Durham's groundout scored Singleton for a 6-5 lead.
"You're up 5-2 and I stayed aggressive. I just got the ball up to Frank (Thomas)," Morgan said. "A ball up to Ordonez and I got two pitches down to Konerko in that inning."
Konerko singled in Thomas in the seventh to make it 7-5.
Rusty Greer reached on Durham's error with two outs in the first and Juan Gonzalez followed with his 27th homer against Parque, giving Texas a 2-0 lead.
Gonzalez, who added an RBI double in the third, missed the last four games with a strained left hamstring.
Chicago tied it in the bottom of the first on an RBI double by Thomas and Ordonez's run-scoring single.
The Rangers extended their lead to 5-2 in the fourth on Greer's two-run single.
Palmeiro reached 30 homers and 100 RBI for the fifth straight season. Only Albert Belle with seven has more among active players.
"I'm not worried about milestones. Our team is struggling," Palmeiro said. "It's important to win a game and tonight was a good opportunity and we didn't."
The White Sox wasted a stellar outing from Sean Lowe, who pitched 3 2/3 scoreless innings in relief of Parque and stood to get the win before Howry faltered.
Recap #2
CHICAGO (AP) -- The Texas Rangers can't seem to score enough runs.
Paul Konerko drove in four runs, including the game-winning sacrifice fly in the ninth inning, to lift the Chicago White Sox to an 8-7 victory over the Rangers on Saturday night.
The loss, coupled with Oakland's win over Toronto, closed the Rangers' lead in the AL West to 4+ games.
"We've got to make better pitches. We've got to catch the ball," Texas manager Johnny Oates said. "Seven runs. Goodness gracious. How many runs does it take to win a game? You shouldn't have to score 10, 12 runs a night."
After Texas tied the game in the top of the ninth with back-to-back, two-out home runs, Jeff Zimmerman (9-2) gave up a leadoff single to Ray Durham. Third baseman Todd Zeile then slipped on the grass while trying to field Mike Caruso's bunt, allowing Durham to advance to third and Caruso to be safe at first.
"Everybody in the ballpark knows he's bunting and (Zeile) fell on his rear end," Oates said.
"It was not a designed play to kick it foul," said Zeile, who blamed the wet grass for his fall. "My body wanted to (stop) and my feet didn't."
The Rangers brought right fielder Mark McLemore in near second base for a five-man infield. Zimmerman fell behind Frank Thomas 3-0 and then intentionally walked him to load the bases. Magglio Ordonez flied out to shallow right.
Konerko, who was 2-for-4, then hit a fly ball to right that was deep enough to score Durham, whose slide easily beat Roberto Kelly's throw.
"I got to 0-2 and I was just trying to get lucky," Konerko said. "I got a good pitch to hit into the outfield. I told myself, 'Just don't swing at the slider.' That's his bread-and-butter pitch."
"I was looking to strike him out," Zimmerman said. "I threw three straight sliders for balls and then a fastball. (Konerko) did his job."
Bob Howry (3-3), who blew his fifth save of the season when he gave up back-to-back homers in the ninth, picked up the win. Howry allowed Rafael Palmeiro's 30th home run with two outs and then served up Zeile's 17th that tied it 7-7.
"We felt we had a chance to win," Palmeiro said. "The only positive thing you can get out of something like this is that we had life in the ninth and we were able to come back. The other thing is Juan (Gonzalez) is back. You can see what he does when he's back."
Gonzalez hit a two-run homer and an RBI double in his first start after missing four games because of a strained left hamstring.
Ivan Rodriguez became the first major-leage catcher to hit 20 homers and steal 20 bases in a season. Rodriguez, who has 24 homers, stole second base in the third. He is only the third catcher in AL history to steal 20 bases in a season.
The closest any catcher had come to a 20-20 season was Benito Santiago when he hit 18 homers and stole 21 bases in 1987 for San Diego.
"Talk to me tomorrow about it," Rodriguez said. "It'll feel better when we win."
Konerko had a two-run double in the sixth and an RBI single in the seventh. Thomas went 3-for-4, including an RBI double.
Rusty Greer reached on a fielding error by second baseman Durham in the Rangers' first, and Gonzalez followed with his 27th home run to give Texas a 2-0 lead.
The White Sox tied the game in their half of the first when Thomas hit an RBI double and scored on Ordonez's single.
Gonzalez's RBI double in the third put the Rangers back on top 3-2. Greer hit a two-run single in the fourth that gave Texas a 5-2 lead and chased starter Jim Parque.
The White Sox took the lead when they batted around in the sixth. Konerko hit a two-run double and scored on Chris Singleton's game-tying single that knocked starter Mike Morgan from the game.
The White Sox loaded the bases against Tim Crabtree and Durham's RBI groundout scored Singleton with the go-ahead run. Chicago made it 7-5 one inning later on Konerko's RBI single.
Morgan gave up six runs on 10 hits and one walk over five-plus innings.
Parque gave up five runs on six hits and three walks over 3 1/3 innings and Sean Lowe worked 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.
White Sox manager Jerry Manuel said he was concerned with Parque's hand, which had forced the left-hander to miss a start. However, Parque denied there was a problem.
"Everyone struggles. My time is now," Parque said.
Game notes: The other two AL catchers to steal 20 bases are Kansas City's John Wathan, who stole a major league record 36 in 1982 and 28 more in 1983, and the White Sox's Ray Schalk, who stole 30 bases in 1916 and 24 in 1914. ... The Rangers recalled right-hander Danny Kolb from Triple-A Oklahoma of the Pacific Coast League and optioned right-hander Ryan Glynn to Oklahoma. ... Saturday's crowd of 27,476 included walkup ticket sales of 5,233. ... Palmeiro, who snapped an 0-for-16 slump with his ninth-inning homer, has had at least 30 home runs and 100 RBI in five straight seasons.
