My
Commentary
Oh my god. 19-4. What a complete, utter, and total
fiasco. Make it worse, I was there! My wife and I stuck it out, we
didn't miss any of this exciting action. :)
Not a whole lot to say about this one, other than we sucked. Roger Delgado continued his assault here with a three run home run in the first inning that put the Jays up for good immediately.
It was the MLB debut of Doug Davis, who gave up 10 runs in 2 1/3 innings giving him an ERA of 38.57! Davis' runs were one run short of the Ranger record for most runs allowed by one pitcher in a game. And of course, Davis was sent back down to AAA after this. That's too bad, I hate to see young kids get lit up like this. We also set a record by allowing 25 hits in a 9 inning game.
About the only Ranger highlights were a Pudge home run, a Raffy home run, and Mike Morgan striking out the side in the 5th. That's about it. A mess all around. :(
This was the first in the last eight series that the Rangers lost the series.

Game Recap
ARLINGTON, TEXAS (TICKER) -- Carlos Delgado and Shawn Green led a team-record 25-hit assault with four RBI apiece as the Toronto Blue Jays crushed the Texas Rangers, 19-4.
Delgado concluded an impressive four-game series at The Ballpark in Arlington with three hits, including a three-run homer in the first inning that sent the Blue Jays on their way. He went 11-for-17 with five homers and 11 RBI as Toronto took three of four from the American League West leaders.
"It was fun. You have to enjoy it because next time it may be the other way around," Delgado said. "It's important for us because we have to beat the good teams."
Green contributed three hits, including his 33rd home run, while Homer Bush went 4-for-6 with three RBI. Jacob Brumfield also had four hits and Tony Batista added three hits and three RBI. Everyone who played had at least one hit for the Blue Jays, who surpassed their previous record of 24 set in a 24-10 victory over Baltimore on June 26, 1978.
Toronto has won seven of 10 and moved one game ahead of Boston in the American League wild card race.
"Anytime you win three out of four against Texas, it's good, especially at their home," Green said.
It was the most hits allowed in a nine-inning game by Texas, breaking the mark of 24 set against Boston on August 5, 1997.
"Tonight is over with. We'll put it to bed and we're 0-0 when we start tomorrow," Rangers manager Johnny Oates said. "But this was one baseball game, one of 162. It was just one of those nights. We couldn't make a pitch and couldn't get an out."
Rangers starter Mike Morgan (12-7) had a personal three-game winning streak stopped after allowing six runs -- four earned -- and nine hits in five innings. Danny Patterson was racked for three runs and three hits while retiring only one batter in the sixth before Doug Davis had a forgettable major league debut.
The 23-year-old lefthander took one for the team, surrendering 10 runs and 11 hits in 2 1/3 innings.
"He made a lot of good pitches, got a lot of guys 0-2, but didn't finish them off. He was nervous and a little rusty," Oates said. "But the job of a long reliever is to sit eight, nine, 10 days and come in and pitch. I wish he could've finished the game, but it didn't work out."
Texas has lost three of four after winning 15 of its previous 17 games.
Toronto starter Joey Hamilton (5-6) was as good as he had to be, allowing three runs and five hits in five innings with two walks and four strikeouts.
"He threw the ball well," manager Jim Fregosi said. "I had him on a pitch count in my own mind. He reached it and fortunately, we had some runs."
Morgan was in trouble from the start, allowing a leadoff infield hit to Shannon Stewart in the first. One out later, Green singled and Delgado launched his 31st homer over the left-field fence. Delgado has more home runs (13) at The Ballpark than any opponent.
The Rangers answered in the bottom half as Ivan Rodriguez hit his career-high 23rd homer and Juan Gonzalez's groundout scored Rafael Palmeiro, who tripled. But Toronto got back the runs in the third on RBI grounders by Green and Darrin Fletcher.
Delgado doubled in the fifth and scored on Willie Greene's single to make it 6-3, ending Morgan's night.
"It's just one game. It happens to every team in baseball. It's happened to the Atlanta Braves, the New York Yankees and the Texas Rangers," Morgan said. "There's no way to point the finger at anything. It's just one game in the standings."
Green's three-run homer higlighted the Jays' four-run sixth before Toronto tacked on six runs in the seventh. Stewart had a two-run double and Batista smashed a two-run homer, his 16th.
