Commentary (by me)

I was at the Ballpark for this game - and quite frankly, the best thing was the fireworks show.  The Rangers were dead all night.  Mike Morgan gave up four runs in the first, mostly on a three run home run to Edgar Martinez, and that's all that was needed.

The Rangers had six hits, scattered over 9 innings, and didn't have any kind of offense until two outs in the ninth, when we had loaded the bases (of which one was a walk, and one was a hbp), but John Halama was just too much - he had his first ever shutout, and he pitched a complete game.  Todd Zeile did extend his hitting streak to 12.

Again, a really great fireworks show out at the Ballpark - I've seen all three this year so far, and probably will go to the one towards the end of the season.

Game Recap

ARLINGTON, TEXAS (TICKER) -- John Halama allowed six hits for his first shutout and seventh straight win and Edgar Martinez and Brian Hunter homered as the Seattle Mariners blanked the Texas Rangers, 6-0.

Halama (7-2) struck out four, walked two and did not allow anyone to reach third base until the ninth inning. It was Seattle's first complete game of the season and first shutout since Jamie Moyer pitched one against Oakland on September 17.

Five of Halama's wins during the streak came as a starter.

Martinez hit the first pitch from starter Mike Morgan for a three-run homer in the first inning to put the Mariners ahead, 4-0. It was Martinez's 12th homer of the season.

Hunter's leadoff homer in the fourth off rookie reliever Danny Kolb was his third of the season as Seattle opened a 6-0 advantage.

The Rangers had not been shut out since August 21, when David Wells of the New York Yankees whitewashed them, 5-0.

Morgan (9-6) had his personal three-game winning streak snapped. He allowed five runs -- four earned -- and nine hits over three innings as Texas dropped its second in a row following a four-game winning streak.

Todd Zeile singled in the second inning to extend his hitting streak to 13 games. The Texas third baseman is hitting .426 (23-for-54) in that span.
