Commentary (by me)
I was out during most of this game - didn't see enough to make any commentary on
it. Except this - man, Jason Giambi is killing us!
Commentary (by Jim Meeks)
Jim was sick this weekend, and didn't write any commentary for this game.

Game Recap
OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA (TICKER) -- Jason Giambi homered twice and drove in four runs
and Tony Phillips had three hits as the Oakland Athletics rolled to an 11-3 victory over
the Texas Rangers.
Giambi belted a two-run homer in the first inning and added a solo shot in the fifth,
helping the A's build an 8-3 advantage. It was the fourth multi-homer game for Giambi, who
had three hits in five at-bats and is 9-for-16 over his four games.
"Everybody wants to know what it is like to be hot," Giambi said. "It's
actually boring. It's see the ball, hit the ball. After a night like last night, you don't
want to follow it up with an oh-fer."
Giambi, who started the season in a 5-for-28 slump, raised his average to .318
(14-for-44).
Phillips went 3-for-5 and knocked in two runs and Matt Stairs also homered for Oakland,
which has won four of its last five games since a 3-6 start.
Jimmy Haynes (1-2) continued his success against Texas, allowing three runs and six hits
over 6 1/3 innings to earn the win. He walked three and struck out one in winning his
fourth straight start against the Rangers while improving to 5-2 lifetime against them.
Rafael Palmeiro hit a two-run homer for the Rangers, who have dropped consecutive games to
the A's after sweeping a three-game series in Seattle.
Loser Mark Clark (0-2) endured another rough outing, allowing five runs and six hits in
five innings to raise his ERA to 10.67. He lost for the first time in five career
decisions against Oakland.
Texas manager Johnny Oates, however, remained supportive of Clark.
"I'm not discouraged. We're going to keep grinding it out," Oates said.
The A's got all the offense they needed in the first. Scott Spiezio drew a one out walk
and Giambi followed by belting a 1-1 pitch over the right-field wall.
Jaha singled before Clark retired Stairs. Ben Grieve walked to keep the inning alive and
Mike Macfarlane delivered a two-run double to make it 4-0.
"It looked like the pitch to Macfarlane was a good pitch," commented Clark.
"I know Giambi hit it off the end of the bat in the right ballpark. The bottom line
is it's four runs."
Texas got a run back in the next inning on Todd Zeile's sacrifice fly.
Clark shut down the A's until the fifth when Giambi sent a 2-1 pitch over the right-field
fence to extend the advantage to 5-1.
The Rangers were able to close to 5-3 in the sixth. Juan Gonzalez singled with one out and
Palmeiro followed with his second homer.
The A's quickly answered with three runs off reliever Mike Munoz in the bottom half of the
inning. Spiezio plated a pair of runs with a double and Giambi had a run-scoring single to
make it 8-3.
Phillips had a two-run single in the seventh and Stairs' homer the following inning off
Eric Gunderson provided the A's with the winning margin.
"We've got a long way to go," Phillips said. "The teams we've played so far
are going to be better teams the next time we see them. Hoepfully, we'll be better as
well."
