Commentary (by me)
Sorry, I was totally offline for a few days, and am just hitting the office again
after being out for a few days. Too much to do today before I'm supposed to go see
the Opening Day game. Sorry 'bout that. :)
Commentary (by Jim Meeks)
The Rangers lost their final exhibition Saturday 6-4.
Despite the loss, the Rangers pitched well. especially the bullpen. The Rangers were
victimized by two errors and three unearned runs in a 5 run Mets eruption in the middle
innings. Juan Gonzalez's miscue was the key error in the frame.
It was announced that OF Scarborough Green and IF Jon Shave made the ballclub and that
Mike Munoz and Eric Gunderson sewed up the lefty spots in the bullpen.

ARLINGTON, TEXAS (TICKER) -- Right fielder Juan Gonzalez
dropped a fly ball, leading to three unearned runs in a four-run fourth inning, as the New
York Mets concluded the exhibition season with a 6-4 victory over the Texas Rangers.
With runners at second and third, Brian McRae hit a sacrifice fly to right that Gonzalez
dropped, allowing Bobby Bonilla and Robin Ventura to score and sending McRae to third.
Rickey Henderson, Edgardo Alfonzo and John Olerud followed with consecutive singles,
producing two more runs.
Ventura hit a leadoff homer in the fifth inning, Alfonzo had three hits and Olerud added
two hits and two RBI.
Josias Manzanillo got the start, earned the victory and a spot on the 25-man roster with
two scoreless innings. John Franco, the eighth New York pitcher, retired the final two
batters for the save.
Derek Wallace, who missed most of the 1998 season while recovering from an aneurysm in his
pitching arm, was tagged for three runs and five hits in two innings and was designated
for assignment following the game.
Rusty Greer led off the sixth with a homer and Gonzalez had two hits and an RBI.
Rangers starter John Burkett allowed five runs -- two earned -- and seven hits in four
innings with three walks. John Wetteland, who has battled an ankle injury this spring,
retired all three batters he faced in the sixth and will start the season on the major
league roster.
The Mets open the season Monday at Florida, while Texas hosts Detroit.
