Commentary (by me)

I started listening to this game, but I should have not have given up after the 6-0 deficit.  :)   What a comeback.  I turned the game back on right after Shawn Gallagher hit a grand slam.  Dammit!   That's my fault.

It was nice to see the team explode, and not give up (unlike me) after they got down big again.  I hope that kind of feeling carries over into the season.  Burkett still worries me.  I like Burkett, I wish he did better, but giving up six runs (even though 5 were unearned).   I hope to god he at least has a 500 year.   I don't think he'll ever have another 22 win season, but he can pitch good when he wants to.  I just wish it'd happen more often than not.

Game Recap

PORT CHARLOTTE, Florida (Ticker) -- Shawn Gallagher hit a grand slam to highlight a seven-run sixth inning as the Texas Rangers rallied from a six-run deficit to beat a split squad of Detroit Tigers, 13-7, in an exhibition game which featured seven home runs and 30 hits.

Juan Gonzalez hit a two-run homer and Todd Zeile and Roberto Kelly added solo shots off reliever Joe Borkowski in the fifth inning to pull the Rangers within 7-6.

Zeile and Ivan Rodriguez had three hits apiece to lead Texas' 17-hit attack.

Gabe Kapler, who led all minor leaguers with 146 RBI last year, went 4-for-5 with two home runs and four RBI for the Tigers. Juan Encarnacion added two hits, including a solo home run.

Texas starter John Burkett surrendered six runs in just two innings. Alan Levine pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings to earn his second win of the spring.

Mike Drumright was charged with all seven runs on five hits in the sixth.

Matt Drews started for Detroit and pitched two scoreless innings.
