Commentary (by me)

Well, the game was sounding good for awhile, even with Clemens on the mound.   We were only down 1-0, and then it started feeling like the 98 playoffs all over again.  Only this time, Chad Curtis beat us.   Sele wasn't all that bad, really, but we couldn't score anything against the Yankees again.  Remember that game on a Sunday afternoon last season when we won something like 15-6 against the Yankees?   I'd rather have saved a few of those runs for the playoffs last year.  I hope it's not like that against the Yankees again this year!

Jeff Zimmerman is starting to look more and more like someone we want to have on the club.

Game Recap

TAMPA, FLORIDA (TICKER) -- Roger Clemens hurled four scoreless innings and Chad Curtis homered and drove in four runs to lead the New York Yankees to a 6-0 exhibition victory over the Texas Rangers.

The Yankees, who are being managed by bench coach Don Zimmer in the absence of manager Joe Torre, saw Clemens allow one hit while striking out three in his second outing of the spring. Torre is undergoing treatment and further testing for prostate cancer, which he was diagnosed with on Wednesday.

Curtis hit a solo home run off Texas starter Aaron Sele in the second inning to provide his club with all the offense it needed. Derek Jeter and Chili Davis added two hits apiece for the Yankees (5-5).

New York prospects Luis De Los Santos, Jason Grimsley and reliever Dan Naulty combined to toss four scoreless innings to close out the win for Clemens.

Sele was hung with the loss for the Rangers (2-5), despite yielding just one run and three hits over three innings.
