The notes and old contract stuff is a friggin mess! I posted it all, but reading back, it confuses me! Especially the salary notes and charts from when he was traded from Texas to New York.

2008-2017 Contract Notes

This contract got officially signed on December 13, 2007. It doesn’t appear to be as heinous to keep track of as the last contract (especially after being traded from Texas), but still has some insaneo numbers. The yearly salary numbers are listed above, but a few notes:

  • There’s a $10 million signing bonus. $2 million of that was paid immediately, $1 each Jan 15 from 2009-2013, and $3 million on Jan 15, 2014)
  • There’s a $30 million marketing bonus tied to home run milestones. There’s a $6 million bonus for reaching career home runs 660 (Mays), 714 (Ruth), 755 (Aaron), tying the major league record, and breaking the major league record (both Bonds).
  • Texas Rangers are obligated to pay $9 million in deferred money left over from the opted out contract. This will be $3 million increments in 08, 09, & 10 (with interest).

2008-2010 Opted Out Details

These are the details of the contract that were opted out of at the end of the 2007 season. These were modified per the 2004 trade to the Yankees from Texas, but are now invalid due to the opt-out.

2004 Revised New York Yankees Salary

When Alex was traded to the Yankees in Feb of 2004, his contract was revised in terms of deferred money payments and base salary This chart shows the revisions, and notes regarding his NY salary. I’ve also left the original salary terms below from when he signed with the Rangers.

2007 $23 Million (TX pays $7 Mil) $4 Mil (1.75% Int) – in 2022 $1 Million (0% Int) – in 2011

2004 Salary Revision Notes

  • The revisions have a total devalument of salary of $5 Million. To compensate, Arod will get a hotel suite on road trips, the right to link his website to the Yankees site.
  • The deferred money is technically now called an “assignment bonus”, which means that it’s guaranteed in the case of a work stoppage.
  • The Rangers also bought Arod’s house in Texas, as well as his luxury suites at the Ballpark in Arlington & The American Airlines Center

Original Texas Rangers Salary

NOTE: This was his salary breakdown as set before the 2001 season started. After the 2001 season, his salary was renegotiated to have more deferred money, but I don’t know what the breakdown of that is.
